Opposition’s Silence On India US Trade Agreement Under Scrutiny

Jakhar Demands Answers From Punjab Chief Minister Mann

Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar attacked the opposition parties in Punjab, questioning their silence on the draft of the India US trade agreement that has been released. He said that for so long, they had been misleading farmers, claiming that the agreement would harm them. Now, why are they not thanking Prime Minister Narendra Modi for safeguarding the interests of the country and the farmers in the agreement?

Jakhar said that Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann should break his silence. Speaking to reporters at the party office, Jakhar said that after careful consideration, the Indian government has successfully concluded an agreement with the world’s largest economy, which will promote industrial development in the country and Punjab. This will not have any adverse effect on the farmers of the country, especially the farmers of Punjab. He said that all crops produced in Punjab have been kept out of this agreement.

Government’s Priority Is To Protect The Interests Of Farmers

State President Sunil Jakhar said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal finalized this agreement after lengthy discussions, in which the government’s priority was to protect the interests of the farmers. He clarified that there will be no import of wheat, rice, maize, or any other crop grown in Punjab from the US. Similarly, complete protection has been ensured for the dairy sector in this agreement.

The BJP state president said that Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and Congress leaders should have risen above partisan politics and congratulated the government for this agreement made in the national interest, but they have failed to play the role of a constructive opposition. He said that the AAP government’s silence itself is proof that this agreement is beneficial.

He said that this agreement will increase the country’s exports and give a new direction to industrial development, which will create new employment opportunities. Home Ministry Takes Cognizance Of The Suspension Of Two Senior IAS Officers

Jakhar strongly condemned the suspension of two senior IAS officers by the Punjab government and termed it highly objectionable. He said that IAS officers are the “steel frame” of democracy. He alleged that those who themselves have been jailed in corruption cases in Delhi now want to promote corruption in Punjab, but these officers refused to support any kind of wrongdoing.

He appealed to the Union Home Minister or the Administrative Tribunal to intervene in this matter so that the tendency to pressure officers into doing illegal work can be stopped. He said that the BJP condemns this action of the AAP government.
