A major train accident occurred in England. A passenger train suddenly derailed near Lewes in East Sussex, after which the last three carriages of the train overturned to one side. There were about 150 passengers on the train at the time of the accident. 18 people were injured in the accident, of which two are said to be in critical condition. Many passengers were trapped in the carriages, and a large number of teams of police, fire brigade and ambulance reached the spot to get them out. Three air ambulances were also sent to the spot.
The train was going from London Victoria to Eastbourne. Later, the authorities said that all the passengers on the train have been safely evacuated. According to a passenger injured in the accident, a loud explosion was heard before the carriage overturned. After this, everything turned upside down in a few moments and panic spread among the passengers. Despite the difficult conditions, passengers helped each other.
According to the South East Coast Ambulance Service, two people suffered serious injuries, while 16 others were taken to hospital for treatment. The exact cause of the accident is not yet known. The Rail Accident Investigation Branch (RAIB) has sent an investigation team to the scene.
