Harsimrat Badal Moves Towards Punjab CM’s Residence In Chandigarh
Stopped By Police, Detained Along With Akali Dal Workers
Political tensions have escalated in Punjab over allegations of corruption involving Dr. Gurpreet Kaur, the wife of Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann. The women’s wing of the Shiromani Akali Dal organized a protest march in Chandigarh. Led by MP Harsimrat Kaur Badal, a large number of female workers marched towards the Chief Minister’s residence.
The police had set up heavy barricades along the route to halt the protesters. A scuffle and commotion ensued between the police and the workers when the protesters reached the barricades. Subsequently, the police detained several protesters, including Harsimrat Kaur Badal.
Female Workers Sit On The Road
After being prevented from proceeding to the Chief Minister’s residence, many female workers sat on the road and staged a sit-in protest. The police tightened security arrangements at the site and blocked the protesters from moving forward. Questioning the police action, the Akali Dal described it as an attempt by the government to suppress voices of dissent.
Harsimrat Calls For An Impartial Probe
Harsimrat Kaur Badal, who was leading the protest, demanded an impartial investigation into the allegations involving the Chief Minister’s wife. The Akali Dal maintains that the allegations are serious and that the entire matter should be investigated based on facts. The party has been consistently targeting Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Punjab government over this issue. However, the allegations concerning Dr. Gurpreet Kaur are currently under scrutiny and have not been proven in court.
Mention Of The Human Rights Commission Taking Cognizance
The Akali Dal also highlighted the intervention of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) in the matter. According to the party, the Commission has taken cognizance of the case and sought a report on the investigation and action taken from the Chief Secretary and the Director General of Police (DGP) of Punjab. Harsimrat Kaur Badal had previously demanded an impartial probe, emphasizing the significance of the Commission taking notice of the issue.
Preneet Kaur Also Raises Questions
Amid the controversy, BJP leader and former Union Minister Preneet Kaur has also questioned the Punjab government. She stated that there should be an impartial investigation into the serious allegations involving the Chief Minister and his family. According to her, instead of dismissing allegations against those in power merely as a political matter, the concerned agencies should investigate the facts.
