Impact Of US-Canada Tensions: Calls To Rename ‘Trump Avenue’ In Ottawa Intensify

The strain in US-Canada relations exacerbated by tariff disputes is beginning to have an impact at the local level as well. A case in point is the Ottawa City Council’s move to rename certain streets, including Trump Avenue. Trump Avenue has been added to a list of streets slated for renaming, alongside Madison Avenue, Manhattan Crescent, Bloomingdale Street, and Staten Street.

These streets were constructed and named during the era when Donald Trump was a prominent developer and businessman, and his company had executed several projects in Ottawa. Now, as he embarks on his second term as US President striving to shape the nation according to his own policies his goodwill toward Canada is no longer what it once was. For this reason, several council members had been wanting to rename these roads for months a move that has reportedly been welcomed by local residents. It has also come to light that people living on Trump Avenue had raised their voices to express their dislike for the name.
