Pod Taxi System To Launch In This City
The First Step Towards Future Transportation In BKC

Mumbai has taken a significant stride toward establishing a modern and smart transportation system. The Bhoomi Pujan for the Pod Taxi project was held at the Bandra Kurla Complex. Once operational, this project will offer people a transportation option that is fast, convenient, and tailored to their specific needs. In its first phase, this Automated Rapid Transit System (ARTS) will operate along a 3.36-kilometer route, extending from Kurla to Bandra East.
A total of eight stations will be constructed along this route, including Bandra East, Kalanagar, the MMRDA Old Building, the Excise Department, Bharat Diamond Bourse Gate 11, the MMRDA Pay & Park facility, LBS Marg, and Kurla. This route has been specifically designed to connect the bustling areas within BKC and to help alleviate traffic congestion.
Future Expansion Of The Project
In the coming years, this project is slated for further expansion. Plans are in place to extend the route to 8.85 kilometers and increase the number of stations to 22 by the year 2031. Under the new plan, circular routes will also be established within BKC this will allow passengers to select their desired route based on their specific requirements, ensuring that the pod stops only at their chosen stations, thereby saving time.
Key Features Of The System
A standout feature of this system is that all stations will be air-conditioned and strategically located at intervals of every 200 meters. Each pod will have a seating capacity of six passengers and will travel at a speed of 40 kilometers per hour. A pod will be available every 15 seconds, ensuring that commuters do not have to endure long wait times. According to officials, approximately 109,000 people are expected to utilize this facility on a daily basis by 2031. The fare has been fixed at ₹21 per kilometer (based on 2022 rates), although this figure may be subject to revision at the time of the project’s launch.
Integration With The Metro Network
This project is being developed by Sai Green Mobility under a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model. Furthermore, this project will not involve any direct government subsidy; instead, the company will pay the MMRDA ₹1 crore annually, along with 21% of its revenue. Additionally, this system will be integrated with Metro Line 3 and Metro 2B, providing significant relief to office-goers in terms of last-mile connectivity.
