Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Meets Governor Regarding Jagtar Singh Hawara’s Parole
Convicted In The Assassination Of Former Chief Minister Beant Singh; Sentenced To Life Imprisonment Until His Last Breath

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann met Governor Gulab Chand Kataria to seek parole for Jagtar Singh Hawara, who was convicted in the assassination case of former Chief Minister Beant Singh. He informed the Governor that Jagtar Singh Hawara’s mother is in poor health and wishes to meet her son.
Bhagwant Mann assured the Governor that the Punjab government guarantees the law-and-order situation would not be compromised and that no unruly behavior would be permitted. The Punjab government has requested a ten-day parole; Hawara is currently lodged in a Delhi jail. The Punjab government’s stance on Hawara’s parole is being viewed as an attempt to woo the ‘Panthic’ vote bank.
Recommending parole and guaranteeing the maintenance of law and order is seen as an effort to send a positive message to the Panthic community. CM Bhagwant Mann stated that Jagtar Singh Hawara’s mother is unwell and urged that Hawara be granted parole on humanitarian grounds after 31 years of incarceration; he noted that his meeting with the Governor today was regarding this very matter.
