The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and the Ministry of Road Transport have put an end to the system of paying tolls in cash at toll booths; this rule has come into effect today, April 10.
This measure has been implemented with the aim of eliminating the long queues that typically form at toll booths.
How Will Those Who Pay In Cash Pay Their Toll Taxes Starting Today?
For those who previously paid tolls in cash, it is now mandatory to make toll payments digitally on National Highways.
You can pay your toll tax by installing a FASTag on your vehicle.
How Much Will The Fine Be?
It is mandatory to pay tolls at toll plazas using a FASTag or an electronic toll collection system.
If you fail to make the payment using one of these methods, you will be required to pay an amount that is 25 percent higher than the standard prescribed fee.
An Additional Charge Will Also Apply To UPI Payments.
If a vehicle does not have a FASTag, or if the existing FASTag is not active, you may pay the toll tax using UPI.
However, in such instances, you will still be required to pay 25 percent more than the standard toll amount.
