Panjab University Student Union Elections To Be Held On August 31

Student Organizations Gear Up Following Date Announcement

The date for the Panjab University (PU) student union elections was announced on Thursday; the polls will take place on August 31. Following this announcement, student organizations have geared up for the contest.

Student organizations have begun formulating their strategies. The results of the last two elections have made this year’s contest particularly interesting. In 2024, an independent candidate won the presidential post for the first time, altering the established dynamics among student organizations.

Subsequently, last year, the Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) secured the presidency for the first time in PU’s history. These constantly shifting electoral outcomes have presented a new challenge for all the organizations involved.

Additionally, five thousand new voters will cast their ballots for the first time in this election. Consequently, the student organization that wins their support could see its fortunes transformed. There are approximately 16,000 voters at the university, with new voters accounting for one-third of the total.

Given this, the role of these voters has become crucial. Recognizing their influence, student organizations are putting all their efforts into winning over these new students. To woo them, organizations had even set up help desks outside various departments during the admission process and conducted student counseling sessions.
