Central Government Approves 6-Lane Access-Controlled Greenfield Spur

Major Junctions In The Tricity, Including Chandigarh, Will Be Freed From Traffic Jams.

The central government has given the green light to a major infrastructure project, providing significant relief to travelers from Punjab, Haryana, and Himachal Pradesh. Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari has approved a massive sum of ₹1,463.95 crore to improve connectivity in the Chandigarh Tricity region.

This funding will be used to construct a new six-lane, access-controlled Greenfield corridor in Punjab. This new road network will directly benefit major cities like Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula. The project aims to significantly ease commutes by diverting heavy traffic outside the city.

NH-205A To Connect With Zirakpur Bypass

This new corridor will directly connect the Ambala-Chandigarh section of National Highway 205A with the Zirakpur bypass. This construction is a crucial part of the proposed Tricity Ring Road project. Its construction will prevent heavy vehicles from entering the city that are not destined for Chandigarh city and instead pass through the city center.

Tricity Residents Will Be Relieved Of Traffic Congestion

Union Minister Nitin Gadkari stated that this project has been specifically designed to decongest the urban junctions of Mohali, Chandigarh, and Panchkula. Currently, major stretches of NH-44, NH-205A, and NH-152 often experience long traffic jams due to heavy traffic and interstate movement. This new corridor will reduce pressure on these major highways and streamline traffic flow.

Journeys To Shimla Will Be Faster And Easier

In addition to relieving traffic congestion in the urban area, this important project will also strengthen regional connectivity. This new corridor will ensure faster and smoother travel for travelers traveling to Himachal Pradesh, especially the Shimla region. Gadkari wrote that this will significantly save time for both daily commuters and tourists visiting from faraway places.

Faster Economic Development Of Northern India

Gadkari said that the improved infrastructure will enable faster movement of goods and passengers, significantly strengthening economic integration across the region. This landmark project is being seen as a strategic investment to boost infrastructure in Northern India, support urban expansion, and improve overall transportation efficiency.
