A detailed and positive meeting was held presided over by Haryana’s Energy Minister Anil Vij, with representatives from various employee unions, associations, and federations of the Energy Department. Following an extensive discussion on all issues, the Joint Action Committee of the unions announced the withdrawal of the three-day strike that had been proposed for August 11–13.
The meeting was attended by the Commissioner and Secretary of the Energy Department, Ashima Brar; the Managing Director of Haryana Vidyut Prasaran Nigam Limited (HVPNL), Dr. Aditya Dahiya; the Managing Directors of Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam and Dakshin Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam, Vikram Singh; as well as senior officials from various power corporations and other high-ranking officials from the Energy Department.
During the meeting, representatives of the Joint Action Committee stated that they had decided to call off the proposed strike following assurances given by Energy Minister Anil Vij regarding their three key demands: the formation of an ‘Agri-DISCOM,’ the granting of a license to a parallel private power company, and the installation of smart meters.
Regarding the formation of the ‘Agri-DISCOM,’ Vij noted that although the Chief Minister had announced it in the budget speech, no concrete action had yet been initiated at the departmental level. He clarified that he had not yet held any formal discussion with the Chief Minister on this subject. However, he assured that if the matter were to be discussed in the future, consultations would be held with the stakeholders.
