Great News For Sugarcane Farmers In Haryana

In a major and significant decision taken in the interest of the state’s farmers, Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini has made this year’s Diwali even sweeter for sugarcane growers. The state government has formally announced an increase in the State Advised Price (SAP) of sugarcane for the next two crushing seasons. This move will not only ensure better returns for farmers for their produce but will also guarantee an adequate supply of sugarcane for the state’s sugar industry and mills.

Making the announcement during a special event, Chief Minister Saini stated that this decision was taken with the objective of strengthening the economic condition of farmers. He clarified that for the current crushing season, the price of sugarcane has been increased by Rs 15 per quintal, setting it at Rs 430 per quintal up from Rs 415 per quintal the previous year. Furthermore, to provide farmers with long-term assurance, the Chief Minister also announced in advance that the price for the 2027-28 season will be set at Rs 450 per quintal.

More Money In Farmers’ Pockets

Explaining the economic impact of this hike, the Chief Minister noted that it would lead to a significant increase in the net income of farmers across the state. On average, each farmer will receive a direct financial benefit of approximately Rs 10,000 to Rs 11,500 per acre, per season. This incentive is expected to encourage farmers to adopt modern agricultural techniques to boost sugarcane yields.

A Boost For Both Sugar Mills And Farming

While this government decision brings a sigh of relief to sugarcane farmers, it will also serve as a vital lifeline for the state’s sugar mills. Over the past few years, rising production costs coupled with a lack of expected improvement in prices had led farmers to shift toward other crops. With the recent substantial increase in sugarcane prices, it is now anticipated that the area under sugarcane cultivation in the state will expand. This is expected to ensure that sugar mills receive an adequate supply of sugarcane commensurate with their processing capacity during the crushing season, which will, in turn, provide a fresh boost to the rural economy.
