Here Is How Mouni Roy Reacted When Offered The Role Of Varun Dhawan’s Mother

Mouni Roy played the role of Varun Dhawan’s ‘fake’ mother in David Dhawan’s film Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai. She faced significant criticism and trolling on social media because of this role. However, Mouni Roy remains unbothered by the controversy. Dismissing the noise, she states that her sole focus was on executing the director’s vision and delivering exactly what he wanted.
I Don’t Care What People Say
Speaking about her character in the film, Mouni Roy said, “There was nothing I could do about it. The uproar didn’t affect me at all. I didn’t care what people were saying. It became a huge issue people asking, ‘How could the makers do this to me?’ but I knew what I had done in the film. I knew my director was very happy, and so were the people I worked with.”
Happy To Be Part Of The Film
Expressing her happiness about being part of the film, Mouni said, “I was surprised when I first heard about the role. Casting director Mukesh Chhabra called me initially. When he told me about the role, my first reaction was the same [surprise]. I said, ‘His mother?’ Then I went and heard the story from David Sir and Farhad Samji (the dialogue writer). I burst out laughing. Just imagine Varun calling Manish and saying, ‘I don’t just want a phone call from Mom; I want the whole mother here.'” “…like Nirupa Roy.” Then the scene cuts, and I enter the frame, where someone is asking Jimmy Sir’s character, “Isn’t she a bit too young for the role of the mother?”
I Have Been A Huge Fan Of David Dhawan.
Praising the filmmaker, Mouni expressed her deep admiration for David Dhawan and explained why she didn’t pass up this project. The actress said, “I am a huge fan of David Dhawan. His films are like friends to me; watching them brings me comfort. He had mentioned that this would be his last film. Moreover, it was a comedy, and I was venturing into the genre for the first time, so I was eagerly looking forward to it. He kept me away from all the promotional activities. That was a wise decision, as it piqued people’s curiosity about what role I was playing in the film.”
