‘Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Sataar Bill’ Receives Assent

The ‘Jagat Jyoti Sri Guru Granth Sahib Sataar (Amendment) Bill-2026‘ introduced by the Bhagwant Mann government to curb incidents of sacrilege against Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji in Punjab is now poised to become law. Punjab Governor Gulab Chand Kataria has granted his official assent to this historic bill.
Provision For Strict Punishment For Offenders
The most significant feature of this new amendment bill is its stringent provision regarding punishment. Once the law comes into force, if any individual is found guilty of intentionally disrespecting or committing sacrilege against Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, they may be sentenced to life imprisonment.

Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann announced this decision through a post shared on social media platforms. He described it as a major step towards safeguarding the religious sentiments and sanctity of the state. The Chief Minister wrote that his government remains committed to upholding the reverence due to holy scriptures and ensuring that offenders face severe punishment.
