Society Still Applies Double Standards – Madhuri Dixit

Actress Madhuri Dixit is excited about her recently released crime-comedy-drama film on Netflix, Maa Behen. Busy with promotions, the actress has questioned the patriarchal mindset while discussing the differing societal attitudes towards men and women. Madhuri remarked that society still employs double standards when it comes to love and relationships. “Ours is a patriarchal society; it has been this way from the very beginning,” she said. “If a man has a girlfriend, he is labeled a ‘Casanova’ or a Romeo.
But if a woman does the same, she is criticized and viewed negatively.” The actress noted that her film Maa Behen challenges these age old traditions and norms. The characters in the film are flawed, complex, and true to real life; the women are portrayed as strong individuals who break conventional rules. She emphasized that every woman deserves to live a life of equality and dignity. “In this film, we have broken every rule set by society, and we enjoyed doing it,” Madhuri shared.
“The characters are complex yet incredibly real; you will find yourself connecting with them.” Maa Behen is directed by Suresh Triveni. Madhuri Dixit plays the role of a mother named Rekha. The story revolves around Rekha, who is already grappling with various challenges when a dead body is suddenly discovered in her kitchen. Alongside her two daughters the responsible Jaya and the outspoken Sushma she must think on her feet, resort to lies, and conceal the truth from neighbors to navigate this crisis. The film also features Tripti Dimri, Dharna Durga, Ravi Kishan, Gitanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh, and Shardul Bhardwaj in pivotal roles. It is currently streaming on Netflix.
