Today IPL 2026 is starting, on the same day fans have received bad news. Former Chennai Super Kings captain MS Dhoni has been ruled out of the opening matches of the tournament. According to reports, Dhoni will not be able to play for the first two weeks of IPL 2026 due to injury, due to which CSK will have to play without him. Chennai Super Kings issued an official statement on Saturday morning, giving details of Dhoni’s injury.

What Happened To Dhoni Suddenly?

A social media post by CSK said, “MS Dhoni is currently undergoing rehabilitation for a calf strain. Due to this, he may be out of IPL 2026 for up to two weeks.” Dhoni’s injury has come as a big blow to CSK and its fans, as he will not only be out for the first match but for every CSK match for the next two weeks.

How Many Matches Will He Miss?

If Dhoni is out for the entire two weeks or 14 days, he will miss at least three matches. CSK’s first match is against Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati on March 30. Their next match is against Punjab Kings in Chennai on April 3. The team will play their third match on April 5 at their home ground against defending champions Royal Challengers Bangalore, a match that everyone is eagerly waiting for. Dhoni is unlikely to play all three matches. His comeback is likely to be in the match against Delhi Capitals on April 11.

Dhoni Constantly Struggling With Fitness

Dhoni has been facing fitness issues for the past two seasons. During this time, he has been battling with a knee injury, often seen with an ice pack or a bandage on his knee. He also underwent surgery after the 2024 season. As a result, questions have often been raised about his playing ability. Dhoni himself has repeatedly said that staying fit for 10 months of the year has been his biggest challenge.
