Loud Boom Reverberates Far And Wide; City Put On High Alert

A bomb blast has occurred in Chandigarh, the joint capital of Punjab and Haryana. Chaos ensued on Wednesday afternoon following an explosion outside the BJP headquarters located in Sector 37. Reports indicate that the sound of the blast was heard across a considerable distance. Upon receiving information about the incident, the police, the fire department, and senior officials rushed to the scene, and an investigation has been initiated.

An atmosphere of panic currently prevails in the area following the incident. The police have cordoned off the entire locality and have commenced their investigation. Meanwhile, CCTV footage from the surrounding areas is being scrutinized. Additionally, a video purportedly showing a hand grenade being thrown at the BJP office has surfaced, in which two individuals can be seen hurling the explosive device.

According to reports, a scooter parked outside the Punjab BJP headquarters in Sector 37 exploded with a loud bang around 5:00 PM. Fortunately, there were no casualties or injuries resulting from the blast. Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur and IG Pushpender Kumar have arrived at the scene. As of now, there is no information regarding the ownership of the scooter involved. No damage has been reported inside the BJP office itself. Meanwhile, the Fire Brigade, Dog Squad, and Bomb Disposal Squad have also been summoned to the site. A forensic team is also present at the scene and is currently collecting samples. Following this incident, a high alert has been issued across the entire city.

What Police Officials Say

Commenting on the incident, Chandigarh SSP Kanwardeep Kaur stated, “We received information around 5:00 PM that the sound of an explosion had been heard near the BJP office in Sector 37. Our teams immediately reached the location, and prima facie, it appears that a small, crude-type bomb was thrown here. Teams from the NIA, FSL, Chandigarh Police, Crime Branch, and Crime Cell have arrived at the crime scene. We are currently conducting an investigation.”
