Operation Prahar-2 Launched; Punjab Police To Take Action Against Gangster-Drug Network
For 72 Hours; Commissioners And SSPs To Be On The Ground

The Punjab Police has once again prepared for a large-scale operation against crime and drugs. DGP Gaurav Yadav announce the launch of the second phase of ‘Operation Prahar’. He said that this operation will continue for 72 hours, targeting active gangsters, drug suppliers, hawala operators, and wanted criminals across the state. DGP Gaurav Yadav clearly stated that a zero-tolerance policy has now been adopted for crime in Punjab and no criminal will be spared.
The DGP said that so far, around 75,000 heroin delivery networks have been busted in Punjab and approximately 150 kg of heroin has been recovered. Around 45,000 cases have been registered in these matters, in which three thousand major suppliers and hawala operators have been arrested. He said that this action shows how serious the Punjab Police is against organized crime and drug trafficking.
SSPs, DIGs, and Police Commissioners Will Themselves Be On The Ground
He said that the biggest feature of Operation Prahar-2 is that this time senior officers will themselves be on the ground. SSPs, DIGs, and Police Commissioners will not only monitor their respective districts but will also conduct patrolling themselves, check police stations, and visit sensitive areas. Police personnel will be removed from non-essential duties and deployed to core duties, i.e., field patrolling and setting up checkpoints.
During the operation, fully equipped checkpoints will be set up in every district, and two-wheeler vehicles will be subjected to intensive checking. Upon receiving information about any criminal incident, the area will be immediately sealed and the criminals will be pursued. For this, the Punjab Police has also issued a detailed SOP, which specifies how to respond to any incident and which officer will be responsible at which level. Every duty officer will remain in contact with the control room. The DGP also said that the wireless network has been strengthened so that every police station’s duty officer remains in direct contact with the control room.
All field staff have been instructed to keep their walkie-talkies active so that real-time action can be taken on any incident and criminals can be apprehended immediately. He dismissed fake narratives and rumors, stating that the police will only arrest those who are involved in crimes or are wanted. The police’s aim is not to intimidate the general public but to provide them with a sense of security. DGP Gaurav Yadav said that his goal is to free Punjab from crime and gang culture, and anyone who breaks the law will be apprehended from any corner of the state and sent to jail.
