Congress Boycotts One Day Special Session Of Haryana Assembly

This Special Session Lacks Constitutional Justification: Bhupinder Singh Hooda

The Congress party boycotted the one-day special session of the Haryana Assembly convened here. Congress MLAs arrived at the Vidhan Sabha but did not enter the House. Bhupinder Singh Hooda Leader of the Congress Legislature Party and Leader of the Opposition informed the media about the decision to boycott the special session. He stated that this special session lacks any constitutional justification. He alleged that the session was convened solely to advance the party’s agenda. Congress members did not even register their attendance in the Assembly records for this session. Subsequently, Bhupinder Hooda, along with party MLAs, conducted a “mock session” within the Vidhan Sabha complex.

Hooda was accompanied by Haryana Pradesh Congress President Rao Narendra Singh. Hooda also launched a scathing attack on the BJP led central government. He questioned why the ‘Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam’ (Women’s Reservation Bill) which was unanimously passed by Parliament in 2023 is now being linked to the delimitation exercise. Hooda asserted that the Congress party demands the immediate implementation of the Women’s Reservation Act.

Bhupinder Hooda had arrived at the Vidhan Sabha accompanied by party MLAs, including senior legislators B.B. Batra, Ashok Arora, and Aftab Ahmed. Before conducting the mock session, he interacted with the media, reiterating that this special session had been convened as part of the ruling party’s political program. He termed it a wasteful expenditure of public funds. He further noted that public money had been squandered in a similar manner on previous occasions when such sessions were convened. He pointed out that discussions on electoral reforms were also held in the House previously, even though electoral reforms fall under the jurisdiction of the Central Government and Parliament.
