Chandigarh Administration’s ‘Action Plan’ Ready To Curb Hoarding

No Shortage Of LPG Or Ration Supplies

Amidst the geopolitical situation unfolding in West Asian nations, the Chandigarh Administration has stepped up its vigilance to ensure the continued availability of essential commodities and to prevent hoarding. In this regard, a meeting was convened, chaired by the Deputy Commissioner of Chandigarh, involving key stakeholders.

The meeting was attended by officials from the Food and Supplies Department, representatives from various market associations, members of consumer organizations, and prominent traders and wholesalers of essential commodities. During the meeting, the prevailing market situation and supply mechanisms were reviewed.

The Deputy Commissioner stated that the current situation in West Asia could potentially impact supply chains and the prices of essential commodities. Consequently, it is imperative to maintain constant surveillance over the markets to thwart any attempts to create artificial shortages or induce unnecessary price hikes.

The Administration issued strict directives to traders and wholesalers to adhere rigorously to anti-hoarding regulations. Furthermore, a decision was taken to establish a coordinated mechanism to facilitate regular market inspections, monitor inventory levels, and initiate immediate action in the event of any abnormal surge in prices.

Amidst rising concerns regarding LPG supplies, the Deputy Commissioner has also directed the deployment of police personnel at gas agencies to ensure the smooth functioning of the distribution system. Teams led by District Food and Supply Officers have been constituted to visit gas agencies and assess the actual stock levels of LPG available within the city.

Representatives from oil marketing companies informed the meeting that, as a precautionary measure, new bookings have been temporarily suspended within a 30-day window following a previous booking for consumers holding two LPG connections.

The objective of this measure is to ensure equitable access to gas supplies for all consumers. The Deputy Commissioner appealed to the city residents to refrain from panic buying or making unnecessary purchases, assuring them that the Administration is continuously monitoring the situation and that there are adequate stocks of essential commodities available in Chandigarh.
