Sukhbir Badal’s First Statement After The Attack

"I Have Never Been Afraid, Nor Will I Ever Be; The Akali Dal Is Ready For Any Sacrifice."

Sukhbir Badal has issued his first statement following the attack at Nanded Sahib. He declared, “I have never been afraid, nor will I ever be. The Akali Dal is prepared to make any sacrifice.” Sukhbir stated that certain individuals wish to disturb the atmosphere in Punjab and are attempting to disrupt the nation’s peace and harmony. “Their designs will not be allowed to succeed,” he asserted, noting that he has been attacked twice both times within the precincts of a Gurdwara.

Speaking to reporters after being discharged from the hospital and before departing from Nanded to Delhi, Sukhbir emphasized that the brotherhood of Punjab is paramount to them.

Shiromani Akali Dal President and former Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal was attacked on Thursday near Takht Sri Hazur Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra. An individual attacked him with a kirpan (ceremonial sword). Sukhbir sustained an injury to his arm, while a police officer was also hurt while attempting to protect him.

Akali leader Bikram Singh Majithia claimed that the assailant struck from very close range, aiming for Sukhbir Badal’s heart, but he narrowly escaped by the grace of Guru Sahib. The blade grazed his arm, fracturing the bone and requiring approximately 150 stitches.

Second Attack In Two Years

This marks the second major attack on Sukhbir in about two years. In December 2024, an attempt was made to shoot Sukhbir outside Sri Harmandir Sahib while he was performing seva (voluntary service) as part of a religious penance; his life was saved thanks to the alertness of a police officer.

Sukhbir Singh Badal holds ‘Z-plus’ security cover. Despite this, the fact that attackers managed to reach him first at the Golden Temple in Amritsar in December 2024 and now at the Gurdwara Sahib in Nanded, Maharashtra has raised serious questions regarding the security arrangements. Demand for NIA Probe

Bikram Majithia has demanded a fast-track NIA investigation into the attacks on Sukhbir Badal at Darbar Sahib (2024) and Nanded (2025).

PM Modi Called

Following the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi personally called to inquire about Sukhbir Badal’s well-being. Sukhbir’s wife and MP, Harsimrat Kaur Badal, shared this information on X. Sukhbir Badal had met PM Narendra Modi just six days earlier.
