Over 5.6 Million Vehicles Are Running Without Insurance In Punjab
Nitin Gadkari Informed The Lok Sabha.

5.654 million vehicles in Punjab are uninsured, worsening road conditions. There are 5.654 million vehicles whose owners have uninsured vehicles. In Rajasthan, 11.9 million people, and in the Union Territory of Chandigarh, 21.9 million people have uninsured vehicles.
Chandigarh has a higher awareness of vehicle insurance than other states in the country, yet approximately 2.25 million vehicles are running without insurance. Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Nitin Gadkari tabled this report in the Lok Sabha in response to a question from Rajkumar Chabbewal, Aam Aadmi Party MP from Hoshiarpur. Insurance and fitness of vehicles are mandatory under the Motor Vehicles Act 1988, but compliance with this requirement is completely non-existent in Haryana and neighboring states.
Death is rampant on Haryana’s roads. There are 4.161 million uninsured vehicles in the state. These uninsured vehicles not only pose a threat to the lives of drivers but also pose a family, social, and economic threat to those affected. Nearly 12,000 major and minor road accidents occur in the state every year.
