New Toll Policy Brings Major Relief To Locals
Commuting Becomes Cheaper And Easier

The government has decided to provide significant relief to local residents by introducing changes to the toll collection system. Under the new policy, people living in the vicinity of toll plazas will no longer be required to pay toll tax repeatedly, making their daily commute both more affordable and more convenient.
Will Residents Within A 20 Km Radius Be Exempt From Tolls?
Under the new toll regulations, vehicle owners residing within a 20 kilometer radius of a toll plaza have been granted substantial relief. They will no longer be required to pay the toll tax every time they pass through; instead, they can obtain a monthly pass for just ₹340, allowing them to cross the toll plaza an unlimited number of times. This facility is available exclusively for private, non-commercial vehicles.
What Is The ‘Pay As You Go’ Policy?
In September 2024, the government implemented the ‘Pay as You Go’ policy, under which toll tax is levied based on the distance traveled. Under this policy, residents living within a 20 km radius are granted the facility of toll free travel. This system was initially launched as a pilot project on select National Highways in July 2024, utilizing GNSS (Global Navigation Satellite System) technology.
How Will The ₹340 Monthly Toll Pass Work?
If your residence is located within a 20 km radius of a toll plaza, you can obtain a monthly pass for ₹340. With this pass, you can cross the toll plaza as many times as you wish without incurring any additional charges. This will also resolve the issue of money being deducted repeatedly from your FASTag account.
What Documents Are Required To Obtain The Pass?
To apply for the monthly toll pass, you will need to provide proof of residence (such as an Aadhaar Card, Voter ID, or electricity bill), the vehicle’s Registration Certificate (RC), a passport sized photograph (if required), and a valid FASTag account.
How To Apply For The Pass?
You will need to visit the administrative office of the concerned toll plaza, where you can obtain the application form for the local resident pass. After filling out the form, you must submit the necessary documents along with a fee of ₹340 (payable via cash, card, or digital payment).
What Is The Procedure For Issuing The Pass?
Once your application is submitted, toll officials will verify your documents. If everything is found to be in order, your FASTag will be updated, or you will be issued a physical pass depending on the specific regulations of the concerned toll plaza.
Will This Pass Be Valid At All Toll Plazas?
No, this pass will be valid only at the specific toll plaza from which it was issued. If you change your address or vehicle, you must immediately notify the toll administration.
Will Commercial Vehicles Also Be Eligible For This Benefit?
This scheme is applicable exclusively to private, non-commercial vehicles. Commercial vehicles, or vehicles registered outside the 20 kilometer radius, will not be eligible for this ₹340 pass.
Will This Scheme Benefit Daily Commuters?
This initiative is not only financially beneficial but also helps save time and reduce stress for daily commuters. It eliminates the hassle of repeated FASTag deductions, making the travel process smoother and more transparent.
Is It Necessary To Renew The Pass?
Monthly renewal of this pass is mandatory to ensure that your identity and vehicle details remain up to date. The process is quick and simple; once your documents have been verified, maintaining the pass becomes a straightforward task.
