Doctors At GMCH Restore Teacher’s Hearing

Hearing Device Activated

Tuesday proved life-changing for a teacher from a village in Fatehgarh Sahib, who had been suffering from hearing problems for many years. When her new hearing device was activated in the ENT department of the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) in Sector 32, she heard her family’s voices clearly for the first time.

The teacher had long experienced difficulty teaching in the classroom. The low voices of children, conversations in the staff room, and everyday interactions had become a challenge for her. Even traditional hearing aids were not providing relief.

On the advice of doctors, she underwent Ossia-3 bone anchor surgery a month ago. Dr. Surinder K. Singal of the ENT department and his team performed the surgery. This procedure involves attaching a device to the bone, which transmits sound directly to the inner ear.

This bypasses the damaged part of the ear and helps restore clear hearing. Four weeks later, as soon as the device was turned on, the teacher said, “I can hear everything clearly now.” Hearing is a teacher’s greatest strength.

Dr. Singal explained that this technology is proving particularly effective for patients with conductive, mixed hearing loss, and single-sided deafness.

These Patients Benefit

According to experts, this technology is an effective option for those with conductive or mixed hearing loss who do not benefit from standard hearing aids.

This improves both the patients’ daily lives and self-confidence. Doctors say that modern technology is now providing permanent and better solutions to patients who have been struggling with hearing problems for a long time.
