In a major organizational reshuffle on Saturday, the Congress appointed Sachin Pilot as the General Secretary in-charge of the poll-bound state of Punjab. He replaces Bhupesh Baghel, who has been appointed as the in-charge for Assam. The party has appointed Randeep Singh Surjewala as the General Secretary in-charge of Gujarat; however, he will also continue as the in-charge for Karnataka, where a smooth transfer of power recently took place.
Assembly elections are scheduled in Punjab early next year, while Gujarat will go to the polls later in the year. In a statement, Congress General Secretary (Organization) KC Venugopal said that the Congress President has re-assigned responsibilities and made appointments of party office-bearers as All India Congress Committee (AICC) General Secretaries and in-charges for various states with immediate effect.

Leaders Relieved Of Their Posts
The Congress party has acknowledged the contributions of the outgoing General Secretaries and in-charges. As a result of the organizational reshuffle, Jitendra Singh, Ramesh Chennithala, and Manickam Tagore have been relieved of their posts. Meanwhile, Mukul Wasnik will continue to serve as a Congress General Secretary.
