Mohali Set To Get Public Transport Boost
City Bus Service To Launch Within Six Months
Residents of the city will no longer have to wait long for public transport facilities. Preparations to launch a city bus service within the next six months have been finalized.
Mohali MLA Kulwant Singh shared this information while attending the Municipal Corporation House meeting on Monday. He stated that all formalities regarding the launch of the city bus service have been completed, and the process of operationalizing it is now moving forward.
The MLA mentioned that the plan involves running approximately 100 electric buses within Mohali city during the first phase of the service. Necessary infrastructure will be developed to facilitate bus operations and ensure passenger convenience.
The lack of public transport has long been a source of inconvenience for the city’s residents. Consequently, the launch of the electric bus service is expected to connect various parts of the city and provide relief to commuters traveling to and from Chandigarh and surrounding areas.
City Bus Stand To Be Built In Phase-11
A city bus stand will be developed in Phase-11 to support the bus service. MLA Kulwant Singh revealed that land worth approximately ₹200 crore has been transferred to the Municipal Corporation for a nominal fee of just one rupee. There are plans to develop bus-related operational facilities on this land, which will establish a permanent infrastructure for the city bus service in Mohali.
Currently, residents of Mohali have limited public transport options. People rely on private vehicles, taxis, or private cab services to commute to various parts of the city.
While some Chandigarh Transport Undertaking (CTU) buses operate on select routes in Mohali, not all major areas of the city benefit from this service. The launch of a local city bus service is expected to address this gap.
General Public Looks Forward To Significant Relief
The launch of the city bus service is expected to benefit working professionals, students, senior citizens, and daily commuters traveling between Mohali and surrounding areas including Chandigarh, Kharar, and Zirakpur. This service will be particularly valuable for those who do not own a vehicle or cannot afford the daily cost of cabs.
