In view of the ongoing summer season and the increasing risk of food-borne diseases, the Food Safety Department, Chandigarh has advised the general public to take the following precautions while purchasing and consuming fruits.
Do not consume cut or peeled fruits sold at roadside stalls, street markets and in the open. They are exposed to dust, flies and other types of pollution.
Do not buy fruits that are overripe, bruised, spoiled or have an unusual smell/appearance.
Wash all fruits thoroughly with clean drinking water before eating, even if they have to be peeled.
Buy fruits only from clean and hygienic shopkeepers/vendors.
Consume cut fruits immediately. Do not keep them stored for long, especially in hot weather.
Citizens are requested to remain vigilant and report any unhygienic practices through the web-based application or by downloading the ‘Food Safety Connect’ mobile app.
