Massive Recruitment Announced For 257 Clerk And Steno Positions

The Chandigarh Administration has decided to initiate a regular recruitment process. As a first step, the Administration has finalized preparations for the recruitment of 234 Clerks and 23 Steno-typists. Eligible candidates will be able to apply for these regular positions starting April 6. The Chandigarh Administration aims to complete the recruitment process for these posts within 4 to 6 months.
This marks the first time since the implementation of Central Service Rules in the Chandigarh Administration that a regular recruitment drive for Clerks and Steno typists is being conducted on such a large scale. This presents a golden opportunity for the youth to secure employment in Chandigarh. To ensure complete transparency in the recruitment process, the Chandigarh Administration has developed an online system. A written examination for these positions will be conducted within one to one and a half months of the application process concluding; successful candidates will subsequently undergo a typing test and a stenography test.
According to reports, the entire recruitment process will be conducted by an impartial agency. Chandigarh Chief Secretary H. Rajesh Prasad has issued directives to the Personnel Department to fill the vacant positions as expeditiously as possible. Currently, the Chandigarh Administration has a sanctioned strength of approximately 1,100 posts for Clerks and Steno-typists, of which 500 to 600 positions remain vacant. Historically, most of these positions have been filled through contractual or outsourced appointments. As per the information available, eligible candidates from Chandigarh as well as from all other states and Union Territories across the country are eligible to apply for these positions.
All information pertaining to the recruitment process will be made available on the Administration’s official website. Appointments to these posts will be made in accordance with the Common Cadre Recruitment Rules, 2026. For nearly two years, the Administration had been in the process of formulating the recruitment rules for this drive. Following approval from the Central Government, the Chandigarh Administration has now officially commenced the recruitment process for these vacant positions. According to senior officials, the recruitment process for vacant positions within the Chandigarh Police and the Education Department is also set to be completed in the near future.
For the year 2026, the Chandigarh Administration has set a target to recruit approximately 2,000 regular employees across various departments. All 234 posts for Clerks and 23 posts for Steno-typists will be filled under Group C. Upon appointment, employees will receive an initial salary of approximately ₹50,000. Salaries are expected to increase further following the implementation of the 8th Pay Commission.
