Rajya Sabha Chairman C.P. Radhakrishnan approved the joining of seven rebel MPs of Aam Aadmi Party into BJP. After this decision, the strength of AAP in Rajya Sabha has come down to 3, while the strength of BJP MPs has increased from 106 to 113.
The seven MPs who have joined BJP include Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal, Harbhajan Singh, Sandeep Pathak, Vikramjit Sahni, Swati Maliwal and Rajendra Gupta. These MPs are also shown as BJP members on the official website of Rajya Sabha.
Out of the 10 Rajya Sabha members of AAP, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak had joined BJP on Friday. He had alleged that the party led by Arvind Kejriwal has deviated from its core principles.
On Friday, Raghav Chadha, Ashok Mittal and Sandeep Pathak held a press conference in the Rajya Sabha and announced the merger of 7 Rajya Sabha members of Aam Aadmi Party with the BJP. Raghav Chadha had said that more than two-thirds of the MPs of ‘AAP’ are going to merge with the BJP. Along with this, he had written a letter to the Rajya Sabha seeking permission for the merger. In such a situation, on Monday, the Rajya Sabha Secretariat has issued a notification and approved this merger.
