After a brilliant comeback on the England tour, discussions about Indian captain Rohit Sharma’s retirement have intensified once again. However, former Indian batsman Mohammad Kaif believes that Rohit Sharma believes in taking his own career decisions and will retire from international cricket when the time is right.
For some time, there have been speculations that Rohit Sharma will not be a part of the 2027 ODI World Cup. Questions were raised about his future after his lack of significant batting in the opening matches against England. However, Rohit responded to the criticism with his performance, ending all speculations by scoring a brilliant 138 runs in the Lord’s ODI.
Speaking on his YouTube channel, Mohammad Kaif said that Rohit Sharma has taken important career decisions on his own in the past. He recalled that after winning the 2024 T20 World Cup, Rohit had decided to retire from T20 International cricket. He also took his decision to retire from Test cricket after the Australia tour.
Kaif said that Rohit has always prioritized the team and his future. According to him, Rohit is in no hurry at the moment and should be given complete freedom to play his game. He also said that any decision in the future will be taken based on Rohit Sharma’s own wishes.
Meanwhile, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Secretary Devjit Saikia had to issue a clarification on the speculations going on regarding Rohit Sharma’s retirement. He refuted these reports, which were appreciated by Mohammad Kaif. Kaif said that the BCCI’s clarification has put an end to unnecessary rumours and allowed Rohit to play his game without any pressure.
Amidst the constant questions, Rohit Sharma has once again answered with his bat. At the moment, his full focus is on performing for the Indian team, while the final decision on his future will be taken at the right time.
