Haryana Assembly Budget Session: Uproar Over Old-Age Pension On Third Day

CM Says Opposition Committed A Sin By Spreading Rumors

The third day of the Haryana Assembly proceedings began with Question Hour on Tuesday. Prior to this, Congress MLAs, led by Bhupinder Singh Hooda, led a march against the government.

During the budget session, a ruckus erupted over old-age pensions. Congress MLA Sheeshpal Keherwala asked how many people’s old-age pensions have been withheld due to verification. How many pensions have been withheld after 2024? What is the benchmark?

In response, Krishna Bedi listed the figures for pension cuts, to which the MLA replied, “There’s no need to waste so much time. Just tell us how many pensions have been withheld due to verification.” Bedi replied, “We need to be reassured. You’re misleading us.” CM Nayab Saini responded, “The opposition has committed a sin by spreading rumors among the elderly. We are enhancing their respect by increasing their pensions.” The minister has correctly answered that if any complaint is received, it is the government’s responsibility to investigate. No pensions have been withheld now; all have been released.

IDFC Bank Fraud Case Resonates

The IDFC Bank fraud case resonates in the House. The Chief Minister stated that ₹578 crore has been returned to the Haryana government’s accounts. This includes ₹556 crore in principal and ₹22 crore in interest.

The Chief Minister stated that a high-level committee headed by the Finance Secretary has been formed to investigate the entire matter. He reiterated that no culprit will be spared. The Chief Minister stated that scams cannot be suppressed under his government, whereas in previous governments, files were buried and no one was held accountable. Congress MLAs created an uproar over this.

Congress has moved an adjournment motion regarding the Haryana Public Service Commission job issue. The matter will be heard on February 25 at 3 p.m.
