Census 2027 Begins In Haryana: CM Saini Records Self-Enumeration Data

Process To Continue Until April 30

The first phase of the census in Haryana has commenced. The process of self-enumeration began this morning. The self-enumeration process will continue across the state from April 16 to April 30. CM Nayab Saini has recorded his self-enumeration details.

In the first phase, a count of houses will be conducted, and people will be asked to provide information related to their dwellings. This census phase will run from May 1 to May 30. This time, the Government of India has introduced a special facility allowing people to fill in their details online themselves.

The Government of India has launched a portal https://se.census.gov.in/ specifically for self-enumeration. Through this portal, individuals can enter their data personally. Self-enumeration will save time and ensure the collection of accurate information. The second phase of the census is scheduled to begin in February 2027. During this phase, people will be asked about their caste. This marks the first time since independence that caste related data will be collected; prior to this, such data was last collected in 1931. Haryana has completed all preparations for the census; officials have been trained, and their respective responsibilities have been assigned. The self-enumeration process is expected to take only 15 minutes.

How To Fill In Information Via The Portal:

  1. First, visit the official portal.
  2. Log in using your mobile number and the OTP received.
  3. Select your state, district, and local area details.
  4. Mark the location of your home on the digital map.
  5. Fill in the information related to your house and family.
  6. Upon submission, you will receive a unique Self-Enumeration ID.
  7. Keep this ID safe; you may take a photograph of it or print it out for your records.
  8. When census enumerators visit your home, simply provide them with your ID.

No Need To Worry If You Cannot Complete Self-Enumeration

Chief Principal Census Officer Dr. Lalit Jain stated that there is no cause for concern if someone is unable to complete the self-enumeration process. Starting May 1, census enumerators will visit homes to collect and record all the necessary information. In Haryana, 70,000 personnel have been trained specifically for the census operation. This training program has been underway for the past two months. In addition, various responsibilities have been assigned to all Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners (DCs), City Magistrate (CTMs), Tehsildars, and other officials.

What Information Will Be Requested From You?

Regarding the House : House number; primary materials used for the floor, walls, and roof; usage of the house (residential/non-residential); and the condition of the house.

Family Information : Number of family members; name of the Head of the Household; ownership status of the house; and the number of rooms.

Basic Amenities : Source of drinking water; electricity availability; availability and type of toilet facilities; availability of a bathroom; kitchen and gas connection facilities; and the primary fuel used for cooking.

Household Assets : Ownership of a radio or television; internet and computer access; mobile phones; and two-wheeler or four-wheeler vehicles.

The ID card issued to the census enumerator will also feature a barcode. If anyone suspects that a particular enumerator does not belong to the Census Department, they can scan the barcode using a mobile phone to access the enumerator’s complete details. For this census, a special appeal has been made to *Sarpanches* (village heads) and women’s Self-Help Groups to encourage themselves—and the people associated with them—to participate in ‘self-enumeration,’ thereby ensuring that the census exercise is completed within the stipulated timeframe.

“I appeal to the public to provide accurate information regarding all queries raised during the census. All data collected during the census will remain strictly confidential and secure. We urge the public to cooperate with the census enumerators and to also participate in the self-enumeration process.” Lalit Jain, Chief Principal Census Officer
