Actress Saiyami Kher is currently in the spotlight for her upcoming film ‘Haivan’. Amidst this, she has discussed the reception of her films ‘Ghoomer’ and ‘8 AM Metro’. She also highlighted that an artist’s talent cannot always be measured by a film’s box-office earnings. Speaking about the respect an artist commands, she noted that box-office collections do not reflect the level of respect an artist receives from the audience.
The actress stated that a ₹1,000-crore film does not guarantee respect. She said, “I am satisfied with doing a film like ‘8 AM Metro’. It became a huge hit on YouTube and was later acquired by an OTT platform; before it became a hit on YouTube, no one was buying it. I feel the respect I earned from ‘8 AM Metro’ is something I haven’t received from any other film.”
Addressing box-office success and the tendency to link an artist’s future opportunities to box-office performance, Saiyami remarked, “I think there is too much talk about the box office in Bollywood. Your next film depends on how much money the previous one made, which is unfortunate. It depends less on talent and more on how much revenue your film generates. However, it is a business; if a film isn’t profitable, how can producers make movies?
So, I do understand the importance of box-office success.” Kher also praised the filmmakers who chose to work with her despite market pressures. She said, “‘Ghoomer’ could have starred any big name, but R. Balki sir said, ‘You are the perfect person for this script.'” “If I cast someone else, it would be an injustice to the script.” When major filmmakers back me on certain projects and say, “We don’t see anyone but you in this role,” I feel a sense of respect.

On the work front, Saiyami Kher will next be seen in Priyadarshan’s film *Haivan*, which also features Akshay Kumar and Saif Ali Khan. The film is set to release in theaters next month.
