Punjab Govt. Working To Address Objections Regarding The Satkar Amendment Act
CM Mann Holds Meeting With 7-Member Coordination Committee
The govt. has accelerated the process of addressing objections raised regarding certain sections and provisions of the ‘Jagat Jot Sri Guru Granth Sahib Satkar Amendment Act, 2026’. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann held a detailed meeting at his official residence with a seven-member high-level coordination committee to discuss the proposed amendments to the Act.
The meeting covered the objections raised regarding the law’s sections, their legal aspects, and the way forward. Members of the committee, including former Jathedar of Sri Akal Takht Sahib Giani Raghbir Singh, offered their suggestions regarding the Act.
Giani Raghbir Singh stated that it is essential to resolve the objections raised concerning certain sections of the Act. He emphasized that a thorough review of all aspects, in consultation with legal experts, should be conducted to ensure the law’s objectives are implemented effectively.
Ensuring No Flaws In The Law
The committee emphasized that there should be no legal loopholes or flaws in this law, which concerns the Sanctity and *Maryada* (code of conduct/dignity) of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. Deliberations also took place on drafting the proposed amendments in alignment with constitutional and legal provisions.
The seven-member committee constituted by the government includes Giani Raghbir Singh, Damdami Taksal Chief Sant Giani Harnam Singh Khalsa, Sant Baba Sewa Singh Rampur Khera, Justice (Retd.) Jaspal Singh, Justice (Retd.) Gurbir Singh, IPS (Retd.) Jatinder Singh Aulakh, and Law Officer Preet Inder Pal Singh.
Government Serious About Protecting Sanctity
The meeting also included discussions on the process of making necessary amendments to the Act in consultation with the panel constituted by Sri Akal Takht Sahib. The committee will review various provisions of the law and submit suggestions to the government.
The Chief Minister stated that the government’s objective is to formulate a robust and effective law that ensures the protection of the sanctity and dignity of Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji. He added that the proposed amendments would be pursued with due consideration of all legal and procedural aspects.
