Heatwave Warning In Chandigarh: Temperatures Set To Rise By Up To Four Degrees
Health Department Issues Advisory

The summer heat has now begun to make its presence felt in Chandigarh. Issuing a ‘Yellow Alert,’ the Meteorological Department has forecast a potential rise of 3 to 4 degrees Celsius in temperatures over the next four to five days. Additionally, a warning has been issued regarding the likelihood of a heatwave between April 21 and April 24.
According to the Meteorological Department, the skies will remain clear in the coming days, and the intensity of the sun will become more severe. Intense heat is predicted for April 24. An increase will be observed in both daytime and nighttime temperatures, making it difficult for people to find relief. The combination of hot nights and scorching sun is heightening the risk of dehydration and heatstroke.
Meanwhile, the Health Department has issued an advisory urging the public to remain vigilant. The department has explicitly stated that even minor negligence could lead to a serious health situation. People have been advised to drink water regularly even if they do not feel thirsty and to carry water with them whenever stepping out of the house. Consumption of beverages such as lemon water, lassi, buttermilk, coconut water, and *aam panna* (raw mango drink) has been recommended, while emphasis has been placed on eating water-rich fruits like watermelon, muskmelon, cucumber, and oranges.
To protect against the sun, people have been instructed to avoid venturing outdoors between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, to wear light-colored, loose-fitting cotton clothing, and to keep their heads covered. The Health Department has specifically urged children, the elderly, pregnant women, and individuals with pre-existing medical conditions to exercise extra caution. Furthermore, a warning has been issued against leaving children or pets alone inside a closed vehicle, and people have been advised to avoid strenuous physical activities.
