Manish Sisodia has made a big statement on the NEET exam system and the paper leak controversy. He said that India’s current exam model is outdated and it is wrong to determine whether a child is eligible to become a doctor or not based on just a three-hour exam.
Manish Sisodia said that in many progressive countries around the world, students are not selected for the medical profession through just one entrance exam. They consider a student’s entire educational journey, their attitude, research capacity, volunteer work in hospitals and years of performance.
He questioned that in India, just a three-hour exam determines whether a child can become a doctor. According to him, such an exam system needs to be changed. He said, “Throw away a paper that decides the value of your child in three hours.”
Citing the NEET paper leak case, Sisodia said that it has its roots in the old examination system. He claimed that the world has moved far beyond such examination models, while India still relies on the same system.
In his “reform proposal”, he suggested that instead of relying solely on one exam for admission to medical education, importance should also be given to the long-term performance, behavior, research, social contribution and practical experience of students.
Sisodia’s statement has sparked a fresh debate on the education system and the NEET examination model. Many people are raising concerns about the paper leak and demanding reforms in the examination system, while some experts believe that a uniform national exam is necessary to maintain transparency at a large scale.
