Revealing Societal Truths Through Humor Is More Impactful – Madhuri Dixit

Veteran Bollywood actress Madhuri Dixit remains renowned for her brilliant acting and commanding screen presence. She has been entertaining audiences for decades, consistently proving her versatility by taking on new roles in every era. Currently, her new film ‘Maa-Behan’ is the talk of the town. Discussing the film, Madhuri shared her thoughts on the relationship between entertainment and society.

She believes that there is no better way to convey an important message to people than through entertainment. Madhuri said, “When people sit down to watch a film or a show, their goal is to unwind and have a good time, away from stress. If the reality of society is portrayed through the story in such a context, the impact is far greater. People can grasp what is happening around them and distinguish between right and wrong in society while laughing.

A message delivered through entertainment reaches people’s hearts and minds more easily.” The actress added, “People often tune out when things are explained repeatedly or when they are being preached to. However, when the same message is presented in an entertaining and engaging manner, people pay attention and reflect on it. That is the greatest strength of films and stories. I love stories that offer entertainment while also conveying a meaningful message.” Furthermore, Madhuri questioned the patriarchal mindset regarding the differing societal attitudes towards men and women.

She remarked, “Ours is a patriarchal society that continues to apply double standards when it comes to love and relationships. If a man has a girlfriend, he is hailed as a ‘Romeo,’ but if a woman does the same, she is criticized and viewed negatively.” The actress concluded, “My film ‘Maa-Behan’ challenges these very traditions and norms.”

The film portrays women as strong characters who break traditional norms. “Every woman deserves to live with equality and dignity.” *Maa-Bahan* is directed by Suresh Triveni. Alongside Madhuri, the film features Tripti Dimri, Dharana Durga, Ravi Kishan, Geetanjali Kulkarni, Arunoday Singh, and Shardul Bhardwaj in pivotal roles. The film is streaming on Netflix.
