Census To Begin In Punjab From December 1

40 Questions Including Caste, Education And Employment Will Be Asked

The census will be conducted in Punjab before the assembly elections. The census work will be completed just before the assembly elections in Punjab. As per the schedule set by the central government, the main phase of the census will run from December 1, 2026 to January 4, 2027.

Before this, people will be able to enter their details through a self-enumeration portal between November 16 and November 30. After this, a re-verification phase will be held from January 5 to January 9, 2027.

During this process, 40 questions will be asked, which will include various types of information including caste, religion, education, employment, language, migration and Covid-19 vaccination status. As per the decision of the Cabinet Committee on Political Affairs (CCPA) of the central government, this time a caste-based census has been included; Caste-related information will also be recorded during the census in Punjab.

Mobile apps have been developed to digitize the entire census process. The central government has approved a budget of ₹11,718.24 crore for this massive exercise. The census work will be carried out in coordination with the Punjab government.

As per the 2011 census, the total population of Punjab was 2.77 crore, comprising 1.46 crore males and 1.31 crore females. The state’s decadal population growth rate was 13.89%, while the population density was 551 persons per square kilometre, and the sex ratio was 895 females per 1,000 males.

The total literacy rate of Punjab was 75.84%, with male literacy being 80.44% and female literacy being 70.73%. Of the state’s population, 62.52% lived in rural areas, while 37.48% lived in urban areas.

A total of 102 awards will be given out in a variety of categories for this year’s Emmy nominees at the ceremonies this weekend. It will focus on guest stars, supporting actor or actress in a limited series, and writing for a limited series.
