The Story Matters More Than The Image – Ali Fazal

Actor Ali Fazal spoke candidly about his creative partnership with his wife, Richa Chadha. He mentioned that neither of them ever tries to fit into a specific image; instead, their focus remains on good and challenging characters.
Both Ali Fazal and Richa Chadha are known for taking on challenging roles in their respective films. Ali Fazal said, “Richa and I have always been drawn to characters that challenge us and can find a place in the audience’s hearts characters that people love. Maintaining a glamorous image has never been a priority for us.” He considers himself fortunate to have landed roles that transcended the screen to become part of pop culture.
According to Ali Fazal, it is a beautiful feeling for an actor when the audience connects so deeply with the work they have created. Citing examples, he noted that people still remember Richa’s character ‘Bholi Punjaban’ from Fukrey and his own role as ‘Guddu Pandit’ in *Mirzapur*. These characters became so popular that people quote their dialogues and re-watch the films. Ali Fazal mentioned that they share a strong understanding regarding the choice of characters.
Both acknowledge that the acting profession is fraught with uncertainty; sometimes one must take risks, while at other times, patience is required. However, the most important thing is honesty in storytelling. He said, “We always strive to be part of stories and characters that linger in people’s memories for a long time. Our goal is not just success, but also maintaining relevance.” Ali Fazal will soon be seen in *Mirzapur: The Movie*, which is set to release on September 4.
