To promote green transport in Chandigarh, 25 new electric buses hit the roads. Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually flagged off these buses from Guwahati under the PM e-Bus Seva Yojana. The local event took place at ISBT Sector 43.
According to the Chandigarh Transport Undertaking, the central government has approved 100 e-buses for the city. Twenty-five buses are expected to arrive by the end of February and 50 by March-April. With the arrival of the new buses, 25 old buses will be redeployed to long-distance routes, enabling service every 10 minutes on key routes.
The 15-meter-long AC buses will run up to 224 km on a single full charge. They will feature 36 seats and 20 standing passengers, digital displays, a push-button stop system, a low-floor design, and automatic ramps for the disabled.
