Petrol-Diesel Price Hike: People Distressed by Rs 3 Increase

How Much Will It Cost to Fill Up Your Tank in Chandigarh Now?

The central government on Friday increased petrol and diesel prices by Rs 3 per litre across the country. In New Delhi, the price of petrol has increased from Rs 94.77 to Rs 97.77 per litre, while diesel has increased from Rs 87.67 to Rs 90.67 per litre.

This increase has been made at a time when the world is facing an energy crisis due to the ongoing war in West Asia. The blockade in the Strait of Hormuz has affected international maritime trade, which has led to a sharp rise in crude oil prices.

In view of the ongoing war between the US-Israel and Iran since February 28, the price of Brent crude oil has remained above $ 100 per barrel. Efforts are underway by the US and Iran for a long-term ceasefire, but the increasing scope of the war has also affected many oil-producing countries in West Asia.

Despite this, the Indian government has made it clear that there is no shortage of fuel in the country and energy supply is completely stable.

On May 12, Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had said that despite global volatility and rising crude oil prices, India has continued to supply petrol, diesel and LPG without interruption. He said that due to the government’s strong policy and effective management, there had been no major change in fuel prices since 2022.

The Petroleum Ministry has also said that the country’s crude oil reserves are stable, refineries are running at full capacity and there is sufficient stock of petrol, diesel and LPG available.
