
In the financial year 2025-26, India witnessed a stellar performance in the retail sales of electric vehicles. This surge marked a 24.6% increase, with a total of 2.452 million vehicles sold. The Federation of Automobile Dealers Associations (FADA) released these figures on Tuesday, highlighting double digit growth across every segment.
FADA President C.S. Vigneshwar hailed this development as a “game changer” for the EV sector. Two-wheeler EVs sold over 1.4 million units (up 21.81%), with TVS emerging as the market leader. The passenger EV segment witnessed explosive growth of 83.63% translating to approximately 200,000 units sold with Tata Motors leading the pack with 78,811 units, followed closely by JSW MG and Mahindra.
Three wheeler EV sales rose by 18.97% to reach 831,000 units, while commercial EVs experienced a phenomenal surge of 120%, recording sales of 19,454 units. These figures underscore the fact that India is rapidly accelerating its energy transition.
