Andy Burnham Becomes Britain’s New Prime Minister

Andy Burnham took office as Britain’s new Prime Minister. Andy Burnham, popularly known as the ‘King of the North’, was the frontrunner to become Prime Minister after Keir Starmer’s resignation. Amidst the political turmoil in Britain, the country has got its seventh Prime Minister in the last decade.

Veteran Labour Party leader Andy Burnham was elected the new leader of the party on Friday last week. Shabana Mahmood, the chairwoman of the Labour Party’s National Executive Committee (NEC), made this announcement during a special party conference in London. She said that only one MP was nominated, so the competition was easy. On the other hand, Burnham had described the election of the Labour Party leader as the biggest change in the country’s politics in the last 40 years.

He promised major changes to the country’s political and administrative system, saying his government would focus on the everyday problems of the people, such as inflation and poor public services.

Earlier, former Prime Minister Keir Starmer submitted his resignation to King Charles after giving a farewell speech outside 10 Downing Street. After this, Andy Burnham met the King and formally assumed the responsibility of the Prime Minister.
