Karanveer From Punjab: A Dream Of Going Abroad Remains Unfulfilled

By Donating Her Kidneys, She Has Given New Flight To The Lives Of Two Others

Some individuals leave behind a legacy that truly reflects their name; Karanveer, a daughter from Mulowal village in Punjab’s Sangrur district, was one such person. In the *Mahabharata*, the warrior Karna is celebrated as *Danveer* a paragon of generosity.

Much like Karna, Karanveer who bid farewell to the world at the young age of 20 set an extraordinary example of generosity. Her kidneys have granted a new lease on life to two individuals. Both kidneys were transplanted into two male patients, aged 38 and 32, at PGI (Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research).

After completing her 12th-grade education, Karanveer had passed the IELTS examination. She was preparing to move abroad to build her future. Her family had hoped that she would fulfill her dreams and move forward in life.

A road accident on October 15 changed the family’s world forever. Following treatment at hospitals in Dhuri and Ludhiana, she was brought to PGI on October 16. After medical evaluation, she was declared “brain stem dead” on October 21.

Living On Through Others

Despite the permanent loss of his daughter, her father, Jagdeep Singh, consented to the donation of her organs. He shared that, like any parent, he too had cherished many dreams for Karanveer.

While it is nearly impossible to imagine life without his daughter, he found solace in the thought that her organs could offer someone else the chance to live.

He expressed hope that his daughter’s organs would bring smiles to two families and allow them to dream of the future once again. Although Karanveer’s own dream of going abroad remained unfulfilled, her kidneys have given a new “flight” to the lives of two other people.

PGI Commends The Decision

Professor Vivek Lal, Director of PGI, remarked that the decision to donate organs amidst such profound grief is an act of extraordinary courage and humanity. Prof. HS Kohli, Head of the Department of Nephrology, stated that a kidney transplant can offer patients the opportunity to lead a better life.

Prof. Ashish Sharma, Head of the Department of Renal Transplant, also expressed gratitude to the family. Transplant coordinator Dr. Navdeep Bansal and Dr. Vijay Tadia, Nodal Officer for ROTTO North, also appealed for greater awareness regarding organ donation.
