Bajwa’s Statement Amidst Factionalism In Punjab Congress: What Does It Really Mean?

Amidst ongoing discussions regarding organizational changes within the Punjab Congress, Leader of the Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa dropped a significant hint. During a press conference in Chandigarh, when asked about the timing of organizational changes and whether the state president would be replaced, Bajwa stated that he could not say anything on the matter at the moment.

However, he remarked with a smile, “There is no telling when the weather might change or when the president might change.” This comment by Bajwa is considered significant at a time when speculation about replacing Punjab Congress state president Amarinder Singh Raja Warring is intensifying. The Congress party had appointed Sachin Pilot as the in-charge of Punjab affairs on September 5.

Since then, Pilot has held continuous discussions with senior leaders and organizational office-bearers. The party is also emphasizing strengthening the organization as it prepares for the 2027 assembly elections.

Rahul Gandhi Likely To Visit Punjab In The Second Or Third Week Of October

Regarding Rahul Gandhi’s proposed visit to Punjab, Bajwa stated that preparations are already underway. It is expected that Rahul Gandhi will visit the state during the second or third week of October. Earlier, party in-charge Sachin Pilot had also mentioned that the Congress campaign in Punjab has already commenced and the central leadership would soon join in.

Congress Not Lagging Behind; Groundwork Has Begun

Bajwa dismissed suggestions that the Congress was trailing behind the BJP and the Aam Aadmi Party, both of which have ramped up their electoral activities. He asserted that the Congress has also initiated work at the grassroots level.

Party leaders are regularly meeting people in their respective constituencies to understand their issues and gather suggestions. Bajwa added that work on the Congress party’s election manifesto is also in progress.

To this end, the manifesto committee is soliciting public opinion across various cities in Punjab, including Amritsar. In other words, the Congress party’s strategy is not limited merely to organizational changes; a process is also underway to incorporate ground-level feedback and key issues into the election manifesto ahead of the polls.

The Congress high command recently constituted various election-related committees for Punjab and retained Raja Warring as the state unit president and Bajwa as the leader of the legislative party. Subsequently, discussions regarding organizational changes have further intensified the party’s internal politics.
