Congress To Hold Major March To Secure Justice For Gulzar Singh

Sachin Pilot Announces March To Gherao Harpal Cheema's Residence

Stepping up pressure on the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government regarding the suicide of Gulzar Singh, the newly appointed Punjab Congress in-charge, Sachin Pilot, has announced a march to Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema’s residence in Chandigarh on September 15, alongside other Punjab Congress leaders.

In a social media post, Pilot stated that the Congress would undertake this march to ensure justice for Gulzar Singh’s family. According to Pilot, Gulzar Singh had questioned Finance Minister Harpal Cheema about the issue of rampant drug abuse in Punjab.

Subsequently, after facing pressure and mental harassment, he committed suicide by consuming a poisonous substance. Pilot noted that the Minister was explicitly named in a video recorded by Gulzar Singh prior to his death.

Demand For An Independent Inquiry

He also mentioned that the victim’s family has alleged they were denied dignity and respect during the funeral rites. Describing the entire matter as serious, Pilot demanded an independent investigation into all aspects of the case.

The Punjab Congress in-charge stated that the party’s demands go beyond just an inquiry. The Congress seeks the immediate removal of Harpal Cheema from his ministerial post and a time-bound, independent investigation into the entire affair.

He affirmed that the march on September 15 would be held to press for these demands, and the Congress would firmly raise its voice to secure justice for Gulzar Singh’s family.
