MBBS Seats Increased By 50 At Chandigarh Medical College; NMC Grants Approval
Admission Capacity Raised To 200 Students
There is good news for aspiring medical students. The National Medical Commission (NMC) has approved a proposal to increase the number of MBBS seats at the Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH) from 150 to 200.
This change will come into effect from the 2026–27 academic session. The addition of these 50 extra MBBS seats will provide a greater number of meritorious students with the opportunity to pursue medical education at GMCH Chandigarh, one of North India’s premier government medical institutions.
This approval is the result of the institute’s efforts to maintain high academic standards, strengthen necessary infrastructure, and ensure continuous compliance with the quality benchmarks set by the National Medical Commission.
Welcoming the approval, the GMCH administration described it as a significant milestone for the institute. The administration stated that this move would further strengthen the institute’s role in producing competent, empathetic, and skilled doctors.
Additionally, the increased intake capacity will boost the future availability of qualified doctors and contribute significantly to strengthening healthcare services in the region.
