The new president of the Punjab Congress was announced today following the resignation of Amarinder Raja Warring. Pargat Singh has been appointed to the post. Amidst the long-standing internal infighting within the Punjab Congress, the party high command has taken a significant organizational decision.
Pargat Singh has been appointed as the new President of the Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee, replacing Amarinder Singh Raja Warring. Orders regarding this appointment have been issued by K.C. Venugopal, the Congress General Secretary (Organization).
Inder Singla Was The Frontrunner
Pargat Singh’s appointment comes at a time when there had been ongoing discussions for months regarding a change in the Punjab Congress state presidency. Initially, Vijay Inder Singla’s name was the frontrunner for the post, and the party had been deliberating on his candidacy for a long time. Other names under consideration included Sukhjinder Singh Randhawa, Gurjit Singh Aujla, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, and Pargat Singh.
Raja Warring Submitted Resignation To Rahul Gandhi Today
Raja Warring met Congress leader Rahul Gandhi in New Delhi on Friday and formally submitted his resignation as state president. During the meeting, he apprised the high command of the situation within the Punjab Congress and shared insights from his experiences over the past four and a half years.
Pargat Singh’s biggest challenge now will be to unite the various factions of the party and accelerate preparations for the 2027 Assembly elections. Recently, the Congress high command had also gathered extensive feedback from senior leaders and organizational office-bearers through Punjab in-charge Sachin Pilot.
