Notices have been issued by the office of the Chief Electoral Officer (CEO) of Delhi to Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) National Convener and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, along with four members of his family. This action was taken as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR 2026) campaign currently underway in Delhi. However, the Commission has also issued a response regarding this matter.
What Is The Full Story Behind The EC Notice Sent To Kejriwal?
The family members who received notices include Arvind Kejriwal, his wife Sunita Kejriwal, his son Pulkit Kejriwal, his father Gobind Ram Kejriwal, and his mother Gita Devi. Kejriwal is a registered voter in the New Delhi-40 Assembly constituency. According to Election Commission documents, the names of the Kejriwal family members to whom the notices were issued appear in the list of 110 voters for ‘Part-51’ located on KG Marg.
Names To Appear In November List
An Election Commission official later clarified that their names would be included in the final list due in November; the notices were issued simply because they had not managed to get themselves included in the previous SIR list.
Aam Aadmi Party Questions The Election Commission
The Aam Aadmi Party has reacted strongly to the process involving the removal of Arvind Kejriwal and his family’s names from the voter list. Targeting the Election Commission via social media, AAP asked, “Is everything in this country happening just to please the ‘Supreme Lord’? Election Commission, how is it possible that the names of Arvind Kejriwal who has been the Chief Minister of Delhi three times and his family members are missing from Delhi’s voter list?”
Notice Also Issued To Chief Minister Rekha Gupta
Under this SIR process by the Election Commission, notices were issued not only to the opposition but also to Delhi’s current Chief Minister, Rekha Gupta. CM Rekha Gupta’s entry in the Shalimar Bagh voter list had been flagged due to a “logical discrepancy.”
However, following an investigation and verification of documents, her name has been validated. The Chief Minister’s name will be included in the final electoral roll to be published on November 4. Meanwhile, Kejriwal and his family have been flagged under the ‘no-mapping’ category.
47.6 Lakh Names Removed From The Voter List
A large-scale ‘SIR 2026’ campaign is being conducted in Delhi to update the electoral roll.
Approximately 47.6 lakh names were removed from the draft voter list published on August 31.
The deadline for filing claims or objections regarding the voter list has been set for September 30.
Following all checks and verification, Delhi’s final electoral roll will be published on November 4.
